Getting a 5 on the AP Human Geography Test: What Worked For Me

*I got a 5 on the test in 2019, before the test format was changed. I don’t know a lot about the new format, but I imagine it’s not too different.

· The review book I used was the Cracking the AP Human Geography Exam by The Princeton Review, 2019 edition. Normally it wouldn’t matter whether you had the latest edition, but because of the change in test format, I recommend getting the 2020 edition or newer. I didn’t really focus on the test-taking strategies section since my teacher had been over that stuff with my class, but I read the content review chapters and took the practice tests/did the chapter drills after each review chapter.

· More practice tests!! My teacher had us do a couple recycled AP test FRQs in class, but I also accessed the archive on the College Board website and did more. I was able to find some practice multiple choice tests too, which will be linked on this website if they’re still available.

· Flashcards and random Quizlet sets- I made my own flashcards because we had to in my class, but I also transferred them into a Quizlet set so I could study them digitally. I also searched “AP Human Geography review” on Quizlet and found a few comprehensive sets that covered vocab from the entire course.

· My teacher’s “Epic Study Guide.” It’s here on the website, but it’s basically a bunch of worksheets to fill out and work on that have to do with all aspects of the course. If you fill it out, it’s basically a crash course of the entire year. A highlight would be drawing all the models- super important to know the models in this class!

· Watching YouTube review videos. Any that I thought were particularly helpful will be linked on this website.

· Skimming through the other resources I’ve included here! Since AP Human Geo is usually regarded as one of the easier AP courses and isn’t always offered at a lot of schools, there’s not as many resources for studying it out there that I could find. For the other AP classes I was able to find more resources beyond what I personally used, but for AP Human Geo I pretty much used everything that’s on here in some capacity.
